Simple Chicken & Sweet Potato Dog Treats: A Healthy Homemade Snack
Homemade dog treats are a wonderful way to show your pup some love while controlling the ingredients they consume. These Simple Chicken & Sweet Potato Dog Treats are not only easy to make but also packed with nutrients. Chicken provides lean protein for muscle health, while sweet potatoes are rich in vitamins A and C, as well as dietary fiber for digestion. Your dog will love the taste, and you’ll love knowing exactly what’s in their snacks.
Ingredients
1 cup cooked, shredded chicken breast (skinless and boneless)
1 cup mashed sweet potato (cooked and peeled)
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for a gluten-free option)
1 egg
¼ cup water (as needed)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken and mashed sweet potato.
Add the egg and mix well.
Gradually stir in the flour until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes or slice into small squares.
Place the treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden and firm.
Allow the treats to cool completely before serving.
Tips
Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of dried parsley, which can help freshen your dog’s breath.
